Three Ana Maria Pacheco sculpture exhibitions ran concurrently at Norwich Cathedral, the keep at Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery and at the Catholic Cathedral of St John the Baptist Starting on Tuesday March 17th. A fourth exhibition at the Gallery at Norwich University of the Arts closed on 26 April. This showed the 1985 sculpture, The Banquet, that reflects on abuse or exercise of power. This work, from 1985, dates from the time that the artist was Head of Fine Art at what was then Norwich School of Art. In Norwich Cathedral, Shadows of the Wanderer, 2008 was installed in the North Transept and remained there up to and including 14 December. This work reflects on concerns about migration and the movement of displaced peoples. Enchanted Garden, eight new polychromed alabaster reliefs were installed on the balcony level in the Norman Keep at Norwich Castle. And two studies of heads, John the Baptist I and II, that also reflect on the exercise and abuse of power, were installed in the Catholic Cathedral. These installations all enabled a new and diverse audience to experience these powerful works in a setting removed from the more conventional gallery space. See below for admission times and dates.

Ana Maria Pacheco was born in Brazil. Following degrees in both Art and Music, she taught and lectured for several years at Universities in Goiás before coming to London in 1973 on a British Council Scholarship to the Slade School of Fine Art. Since 1973 she has lived and worked in England. From 1997 to 2000 she was Associate Artist at the National Gallery, London, a residency that culminated in a major exhibition of her work. She has received an Honorary Degree from the University of East Anglia and in 1999 she received the prestigious Ordem do Rio Branco from the Brazilian Government.
